SJRU Zone teams are chosen from the NSWJRU State Championships held over the June long weekend, 11th – 13th June 2016.

  • The coaching team and selectors will choose a squad of players from across each Zone to contest the regionals. Each Zone (North, South and West) will select 15 players and then the Barbarians will select 15 players. Following these selections, the Zones will be allowed to choose their reserve players.
  • There is usually only about a three to four week commitment to this coaching role.

The teams will then play at the Regional Tournament on the 16th and 17th July at a venue in the metro area to be confirmed.

SJRU Barbarian teams are chosen from the NSWJRU State Championships held over the June long weekend, 11th – 13th June 2016.

The coaching team and selectors will choose a squad of players from across each Zone to contest the regionals. Each Zone (North, South and West) will select 15 players and then the Barbarians will select 15 players. The Barbarians may choose their reserves after the Zones have picked theirs. The idea of the Barbarian side is to pick up the skilled players that might slip through the selection net.

The aim is to showcase these players and their skills in the Regionals with selections for the Sydney team as the goal, aside from the Regional contest itself.

There is usually only about a three to four week commitment to this coaching role.

The teams will then play at the Regional Tournament on the 16th and 17th July at a venue in the metro area to be confirmed.

Sydney Junior teams:
The Under 14 to Under 16 teams are chosen from the SJRU Regionals on the 16th and 17th July 2016. These teams will play against Country on 7th August 2016 at a country venue to be confirmed.
The Sydney U16s may also play against a touring team prior to the proposed U16s Invitational on the weekend of the 24th and 25th September.
The under 14s will select a squad of 40 players from the State Championships. These players will train as a squad and then will play a ‘Possibles’ vs ‘Probables’ at the Regionals as a selection trial for the Sydney team on the 16th July.
The U15s and U16s will select a Sydney team from the SJRU Regionals on the 16th and 17th July 2016.
The U17s Sydney team will be selected directly from the NSWJRU State Championships held over the June long weekend, 11th – 13th June 2016.
The U18s squad will be selected directly from the U18s competitions and a trial day held through early June where final team selections are made.
For the U14s, U15s, U17s and U18s, this is usually only a three to four week commitment.
For the U16’s, additionally there is the U16 Invitationals at the end of the season on the weekend of the 24th and 25th September. This role will encompass a much longer timeframe.

NSWJRU Junior teams are traditionally selected from the City v Country tournament to be held on 7th August.
The U15s will be selected with the specific aim of entering in the NSW U16s Invitational on the 24th and 25th September.
There is usually only about a four to five week commitment to this coaching role.
Independent Selectors are also ideally required for all these teams. We are seeking experienced rugby folk to assist with the selection of these teams at the NSW State Championships, SJRU Regionals and the Sydney vs Country fixtures.
